Is Wolf Blitzer Hurting America? by Darren Hardy

l never watch the news...ever! l've gone out of my way to avoid watching it even when l'm subjected to it at other people's homes. l'll make some excuse to leave the room.
This article by SUCCESS magazine Darren Hardy explains why & l hope it is enough to make YOU follow suit!

Is Wolf Blitzer Hurting America? by Darren Hardy

During the media tour launching The Compound Effect, CNN asked me to submit an article for their website. So, what do I have to say to CNN? Below is the article I submitted

to my PR team. Even after they begged me to neuter it, to refocus it on 24/7 news (not just CNN and not just the Wolf man), CNN still didn’t have the backbone to publish the critical commentary. So I publish it here.

(CNN-) Disaster. Crisis. Failure. Scandal. Tragic. Devastation. Danger. Emergency. Threat. Crash… just a few words spoken by Wolf Blitzer in “The Situation Room” within only a five-minute span. If you listen to The Wolf, the world is coming to an end… every five minutes. And we wonder why people feel hopeless (giving up the belief that a job even exists), fearful (pessimistic about the future) and lack confidence (market and otherwise) when you have The Wolf & Friends spreading the gospel of fear, worry, danger and anxiety in our family rooms, offices, cars and airports 24/7.

The damage these constant and repeated messages have on our consciousness and creative potential is “devastating.” (see Media Madness video)

What controls your attention controls your life.

Where your attention goes, energy flows and so goes your life. When I interviewed racecar-driving legend Mario Andretti, I asked him for the No. 1 success tip to racecar driving. His answer, “Don’t look at the wall.” He explained, “Your car goes where your eyes go.” If you are a tightrope walker, what’s the one thing you never do? Right, look down. Why? Your body will follow your eyes. Your body (your life) also follows your eyes (your attention). If you point your eyes at Constant Negative News (there’s an acronym for that), your life will also go in that direction.

Your mind is like an empty glass. It will hold anything you put into it. You put in sensational news, salacious headlines and talk show rants and you are pouring dirty water into your glass. If you’ve got dark, dismal, worrisome water in your glass, everything you create will be filtered through that muddy mess, because that’s what you’ll be thinking about. Garbage in, garbage out.

You can flush your dirty glass with clean, clear, pure water. What is clear water? Positive, inspirational and supportive input and ideas. Stories of aspiration, people who, despite challenges, are overcoming obstacles and achieving great things. Strategies of success, prosperity, health, love and joy. Ideas to create more abundance, to grow, expand and become more. But it’s a constant battle as we are surrounded by those who want to spew dirty water into our glass constantly.

Why does The Wolf do it?

The fight for your attention has never been bloodier. Once upon a time there were only a few TV channels, a few radio stations (that came in), a few major newspapers and a handful of magazines. Now there are thousands of each, plus blogs, RSS feeds, text alerts, iPad apps, satellite radio, Pandora, tweets, Facebook posts and LinkedIn notifications, ad nauseam. So to compete in this bare-knuckled blood sport The Wolf has to shock you into paying attention to him (and his advertisers) and nothing gets your attention like good old-fashioned fear.

Your mind is not designed to make you happy. Did you know that? Happiness is not its job. Its main and sole concern is survival, to keep you alive, thus it is on constant watch looking out for any danger or impending threat. The Wolf knows this. The Wolf knows your mind better than you. He can’t get your attention (or the needed Nielsen audience measurement metrics) with happy feel-good stories and reports. Positive potential, abundance and optimism don’t grab your mind by the shirt collar like danger, disaster and tragedy does.

The media is crippling our creative potential.

You get in life what you create. Expectation drives the creative process. What do you expect? You expect what you are thinking about. Your thought process, the conversation in your head, is the foundation of the results you create in life. What are you thinking about? What is influencing and directing your thoughts? The answer: whatever you’re allowing yourself to hear and see. The input you are feeding your mind is what it is processing and thinking about.

If you listen to The Wolf you will be constantly reminded of, and thinking about, the tragic unemployment rate, the volatile and uncertain stock market, the gloomy state of the economy, scandals on Wall Street, gossip and shenanigans in Washington… after the relentless coverage of the latest tsunami, hurricane, car bombing, heinous murder and other calamities. Feed your mind repeated meals of that junk food and then wonder why you don’t feel very motivated to find a job or start a new business.

You can change the world—your world.

You can rid your world of all wars, murders, crimes, scandals, gossip, corruption and international disasters. You have that much power… in the palm of your hand.

How? Hit the OFF button. Turn off your TV. Turn off your radio. Cancel your newspaper subscription.

I learned an important life philosophy long ago. Control what’s controllable. What you can’t control is the national economy. What you can control is your economy. What you can’t control is what Washington does about healthcare. What you can control is the care of your own health. What you can’t control is how the president is running the country. What you can control is how you are running your business, household and life. What you can’t control is the war in Afghanistan. What you can control is the peace and harmony in your own home. Stop paying attention to what you can’t control, or it will control you and your life.

It’s time to take back control of your mind so you can take back your life. Stop letting other people influence your attitude, your hope for the future and your potential to do something great. Focus your mind and attention on what is right with the world and what’s possible for you. At the same time The Wolf is pointing out the 12 ugly, heinous, murderous and disastrous things that happened in the world today, millions of wonderful, miraculous and beautiful things happened as well. Step out of the perverted view of the world from “The Situation Room” and into the world of abundance, splendor and the unlimited positive potential that surrounds you every day. Focus your attention on ideas, information and knowledge that can help you grow, prosper, create and contribute to making a positive difference in your world… and you might just do something to change the world.

Rally Cry by Darren Hardy

Ask me WHY l never watch the news...To find the answer to that question l would've previously told you a long boring story that may or may not have convinced you. But my previous post of an article written by SUCCESS magazine publisher, and fellow Media Warrior, Darren Hardy, tells the story better than l ever could. We at LivingForExcellence247.com are also fighting this Media War and l can't emphasize enough that we need Y0U to fight this fight along with us!

Rally Cry by Darren Hardy

I was in Manhattan to meet with the publisher who was taking the message of my book The Compound Effect to the masses. I was escorted to a conference room where shelves filled with best-sellers lined the walls. The marketing team pointed to a spot on the wall where mine would be.
Marketing staffers began the strategy discussion by saying they reached out to mainstream media and received great response: radio interviews, a few TV appearances and some online article requests. “We even got a request from CNN, wanting you to write an article for its website,” the web media publicist said. She practically giggled with glee as she said the letters C-N-N.
I laughed out loud. “You’re kidding, right?” Her startled eyes indicated she wasn’t. “Clearly they haven’t read the book,” I said. An awkward silence filled the room. “Even if they read only the introduction, they’d know they—along with all sensational news media—are my mortal enemy.” By seeing the confused faces, I knew I needed to give an explanation (and a rally cry).
“News media have become a competitive blood sport for our attention,” I said. “Their focus is on finding the half-dozen most violent, tragic, scandalous and ugly things that happened in a day and parade them morning and night. Their goal is to trigger our fear, worry, threat and distress responses so we keep tuning in.
“This barrage of negative input devastates our productive potential and creative capacity. What we see and hear is what we think about. Our thoughts become our expectations. Expectation leads to manifestation. It’s a dangerous and damaging downward spiral.”
Nearly in a lather, I concluded, “CNN, FOX and the rest are the Goliaths we fight at SUCCESS. We want to show people what’s right with the world. We spotlight those who, despite great odds and obstacles, do magnificent, wonderful and difference-making things. And most important, how all of us have the ability to do the same. Through the fog of negative, fearful and worrisome messages, SUCCESS aims to be a beacon of inspiration and instruction on how people can live an abundant, joyful and fulfilling life. That’s our mission.
“I’ll write the article,” I said defiantly. “Let’s see how fair and balanced they are by whether they publish it.” My publicist reluctantly sent my article—“Is Wolf Blitzer Hurting America?”—to CNN. Surprise, surprise, they didn’t publish it. So I did. You can see it here.
I received more comments on that post than any I’ve done—ever. It rallied the community (you!). It identified our shared philosophy that we live in a world where millions of marvelous things happen every day, and we have an unlimited potential to create a magnificent life for ourselves and our families—no matter what the Wolf howls from The Situation Room.
I share this story because:
1. It’s true and I love telling it.
2. Our current issue of SUCCESS focuses on Modern Marketing strategies, and I illustrated a potent one—storytelling.
I could have said, “Here at SUCCESS we are committed to bringing you ideas, information and knowledge that can help you grow, prosper, create and contribute to making a positive difference in your world.”
But by telling a story that exemplifies that commitment, the message becomes exponentially more memorable and powerful.
This month we want to help you better tell the story of your great product, service or cause so you, too, can positively affect the people in your world.

The Magic of Dreams - Darren Hardy

Failure.
Rejection.
Domestic abuse.
Divorce.
Clinical depression.

These were the nightmares experienced by an out-of-work single mother living on welfare and contemplating suicide.

If that person wrote a book for kids, would you let your kids read it?
More than 400 million people have.

If that person wrote novels leading to movies about magic, good and evil, life and death, do you think they would be successful?
Eight blockbuster movies with box office earnings totaling more than $7 billion suggest they might.

Going from broke, jobless and living on the dole to a multimillionaire in less than five years sounds like a great American rags-to-riches story,
except J.K. Rowling is British and today she’s richer than the queen of England.

Although I haven’t read any of her books, the story behind the story is riveting, fantastical and seemingly magical.

Seven years after graduating university, the unemployed divorced mother saw herself as “the biggest failure” she knew.
Clinically depressed and contemplating suicide, she turned her despair into her inspiration.

“Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was and began to direct all my energy to finishing the only work that mattered to me,” Rowling said in a 2008 commencement speech at Harvard University titled “The Fringe Benefits of Failure.” “Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one area where I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”

Rowling wrote her first novel in cafes, walking from one to the other, taking her daughter with her so she would tire along the way and sleep while Rowling wrote.

She pounded out her first manuscript on a manual typewriter and completed it in 1995, the year of her 30th birthday.

Numerous publishers rejected the manuscript before the owner of a small publishing house was convinced by his 8-year-old daughter to publish the first Harry Potter book.

And the rest of the story you know.

Forbes estimates her fortune at $1 billion, and she was the runner-up for Time magazine’s person of the year in 2007.

Our latest issue of SUCCESS features our achiever of the year and finalists. We search the world over to bring you these stories so you can see that, with persistence, passion and relentless commitment, people with no more resources than the rest of us can indeed make their dreams come true.

I want your dreams to come true, too.
They are possible.
You can achieve them.
Simply never give up.
No matter what, never give up.

When you feel like giving up, what do you do to keep yourself going? Share your comments below and share this post with someone you know is one “no” away from blockbuster success.

TIPS TO HELP PREPARE FOR EXAMS

TIPS TO HELP PREPARE FOR YOUR EXAM

Betty Goldberg

January 30, 2013

In school you have taken many exams. Whether you are an excellent exam taker or a novice at the task, you probably have experienced a degree of stress related to your performance on an exam. There are some steps you can take to reduce the stress of taking an exam, and these suggestions will likely help you throughout your life.

PREPARING FOR THE EXAM

Of course, it’s always easier to take an exam from an instructor whom you have had in previous classes because you know what to expect.

Rely on Experience. From experience, you know whether the instructor likes to use objective questions or subjective questions, whether the instructor focuses on the textbook or on class notes, and the difficulty of the questions the instructor asks.

Know What to Expect. If you do not know what to expect, however, you need to prepare for all possibilities. Be sure that you review all pertinent materials for the exam--whether they come from class notes, the textbook, field trips, or classroom presentations.

SURVIVING THE DAY BEFORE THE EXAM

Be sure you know where and at what time the exam will be administered. Organize the materials you need to bring with you to the exam. You may need a computer, a calculator, pencils, pens, CDs, or paper. Try to get a good night’s sleep the night before the exam.

TAKING THE EXAM

Now that the day of the exam has arrived, try this to ensure that you perform well:

1.      Arrive at the test site early so that you are ready to take the exam when the instructor announces the beginning time. That means you have to be sure to get up early enough to have a light breakfast before leaving for the exam.

2.      Read the instructions provided on the exam very carefully to be sure you answer the questions correctly.

3.      Keep track of time so that you don’t get stuck and spend too much of your time on any one part of the exam.

4.      Try to keep a positive attitude.

Relax as best you can. A relaxed performance is much more productive than a stressed performance.

What I learned About Procrastination Today in School

ENDING PROCRASTINATION

Steven Rice

Everyone at one time or another has put off some task, goal, or important plan at work for any number of reasons. Perhaps you think time is too short or the task isn’t really that important. Either way, procrastination can lead to a stalled life and career.

EVALUATE YOUR SITUATION

Joyce Winfrey, of Time Management Incorporated, says that you should ask yourself two very basic questions about why you are procrastinating:

1.      Am I procrastinating because the task at hand is not really what I want?

2.      Is there a valid reason for my procrastination?

After you have asked yourself these questions, look deep within yourself. If you are looking for excuses, then asking these questions will be a waste of time. However, honest answers will clarify things. Several techniques will help you get back on task.

PRACTICE NEW TECHNIQUES

Identifying and understanding the techniques that follow is the first step. Once you know what to do, you can begin to practice these steps daily.

Take Baby Steps. Don’t make any task bigger than it really is by looking at the whole thing at once. Break it down into baby steps that are manageable.

Don’t Strive for Perfection. If you are waiting for the perfect solution or the perfect opportunity, you will be immobilized. Accept the fact that no one and nothing is perfect. Then accept your mistakes and move on.

Enjoy the Task. Find something in the task at hand that is positive and rewarding. Confront your fears with a plan of action.

Remind yourself of all these techniques daily. Post them by your telephone, by your desk, or in your car. You will find that your personal life and career will gain momentum, and success will soon be yours.

Business is Relationships; Great Business is Great Relationships

Business is Relationships; Great Business is Great Relationships
by Orrin Woodward
I have taught a principle for years called - slow to go fast. This doesn't mean build your business slow, but it does mean take the time to truly get to know your community. You can still go fast by having more people you are cultivating relationships with and getting them around the community of winners.  Sadly, however, many people rush through people not understanding that all business is relationships and the best businesses have the best relationships. In fact, each of the LIFE Business Founders has a huge business because they are huge builders of deep relationships with their leaders. Last year I did a talk on the importance of relationships and this segment is from that talk. If you want 2013 to be the best year then start today in building the best relationships by applying the principles from the Top Five books and from the friendship chapter from my book RESOLVED: 13 Resolutions for LIFE.

Orrin Woodward, coFounder

To change your life, You must first change your way of thinking.
Changed thinking produces changed actions. Changed actions produces changed results.
Changed thinking comes from new information.

15 strategies to amplify engagement on your Page

Asking questions is the quickest way to get Facebook fans commenting. But keep in mind that Facebook fans don’t like homework. If they have to spend time trying to understand a a vague or long-winded question, they’ll move on to the next post in their Newsfeed.

Here are 15 strategies to amplify engagement on your Page posts with questions:
  1. Ask specific questions – The last thing your fans want to do is homework. Asking your fans what we can do to cut down carbon emissions might get comments from your biggest fans, but most of them would just skip to the next item in their news feed. Specificity will get more comments.
  2. Ask yes or no questions – Yes or no: Are you more likely to answer “yes or no” questions, or open-ended ones that require time and attention? Point given.
  3. Ask timely questions - Are you staying home or traveling this holiday?
  4. Ask edgy questions – Green Peace does a great job with this by asking questions like “Do you live near a nuclear power plant?” Studies have shown that being either really positive or really negative increase comments. Playing is safe in the middle ground doesn't work. Take a side, play the edge.
  5. Ask true or false questions – This type of question works really well for historical societies. Always begin these questions with “True or False:“. Fans will be more likely to answer if they know that a simple answer is all that’s required.
  6. Ask questions about a photo – Share a photo an ask your fans to comment. For example, an animal rights org could post a photo and ask “What’s wrong with this picture?”
  7. Ask fun questions – Don’t be afraid to go off topic with your fans. It will remind them that you’re just like them, and will help establish a more human connection with them. For example, “What’s your families favorite vacation spot?”
  8. Ask directly – If your Facebook Page is new, or if it’s been in a coma for months, getting any kind of response from fans can be difficult. If that’s the case with your Page, try asking specific fans that you know personally to comment on a post (message them, email them, tweet them). You’ll get a good response if you tell them that you think they’d offer value and insight around a particular conversation. It only takes 5-10 core fans to get a productive comment thread started.
  9. Ask preference questions – When you were in college, did you prefer essay questions or multiple choice questions? Exactly.
  10. Ask who’s attending an event – You can pose this question to fans located near an upcoming event. Bonus points if you share a link you your Facebook Event.
  11. Ask those who attended the event to share a favorite moment – If you’re a national organization that help an event in Chicago, you can target an update to those attendees asking to share their impressions. This will mainly get responses from your core fans (event attendees), but will give less active fans a deeper look at your organization’s culture.
  12. Ask for tips – This one works well if your organization works with families. Asking for tips on how to get kids out of bed earlier would leverage shared experiences among your Facebook fans.
  13. Ask humanistic questions – This works especially well if your organization deals with a disease or syndrome. For example, The Brain Aneurysm Foundation launched their Page simply by asking: “When you were first recovering from a brain aneurysm, what gave you the most hope?”
  14. Ask fill in the blank questions – Another way to make less work for your Facebook fans is to use “fill in the blank” questions. When you ask these, always begin with “Fill in the blank:”. Your fans will be more likely to answer a question if they know what’s expected. And everybody knows how “fill in the blank questions” work.
  15. Reply and pay attention – People skills 101 talks about acknowledging when someone answers a question. When your fans answer questions, comment back and deepen the conversation.
Here's what I want you to do right now: Try one of these approaches today and give it an extra boost, by asking 7 core fans / friends to comment (as explained in #8). Then get them to take The Mental Fitness Challenge !

Decriminalisation of drug possession does not lead to increase in drug use

Decriminalisation of drug possession does not lead to increase in drug use, a new report has found.

As part of the Global Commission on Drug Policy, we have consistently called for countries to experiment with new approaches to tackling drugs.

Now new research from Release, a UK drug policy organisation, illustrates how countries that have already taken the brave step of changing their drugs policies are not experiencing adverse effects.

The study (A Quiet Revolution: Drug Decriminalisation Policies in Practice across the Globe) reviews the evidence in 21 countries that have adopted some form of decriminalisation, from the Netherlands to Estonia, Australia to Mexico, Uruguay to Portugal.

The report states: “The harms of criminalisation far outweigh those of decriminalisation. Decriminalisation does appear to direct more drug users into treatment, reduce criminal justice costs, and shield many drug users from the devastating impact of a criminal conviction.

“A decriminalisation approach coupled with investment in harm reduction and treatment services can have a positive impact on both individual drug users and society as a whole.”
Belize is the latest country to consider decriminalising drugs, announcing the appointment of a committee to evaluate a proposal to decriminalise marijuana possession.

This is just one more step in proving how decriminalisation of drugs is a viable option for governments around the globe. The more this issue is debated, the further we can move away from the failed war on drugs.

We were born for this. And so were you.

From the desk of Rachel DeMille...

If you've been connected with us for more than a couple of weeks, you know that we're really averse to doom-saying.

[Our kids love this silly little clip - I honestly don't get it. Probably you won't get it either. Forgive me in advance, because it will probably stick in your head as it has mine, LOL. ]

When Oliver puts out an article or post that has challenging or disturbing information, it almost always has a "what we can do about it" aspect to it. We're not the kind to simple lookeyloo at grim news like passers-by at an accident scene.

We have noticed that those who are attracted to the message of Leadership Education tend to feel like they were actually born to thrive in crisis and help others find peace and happiness in the process. We think that's really fantastic.

People who don't understand what's really going on or who feel unprepared are going to feel stressed and out of control, their jobs and families are going to suffer; while those who have principles and information to help make sense of it all, and to take advantage of the opportunities (that's right, their are opportunities during crisis eras!) will be optimistic and energized.

Although we're not prone to disseminating disturbing news, with daily news updates detailing the erosion of our culture and the assaults on our economy, security and constitutional protections and forms, we are astonished, if not surprised, by reports such as these:

We've long been saying that we had a Calm before a Storm, a time to prepare, so that we all could thrive in a crisis and bring a sense of meaning and purpose to those who may look to us (you included!) for steadying, empowering and inspiring leadership.

In our estimation, the Calm is nearly past.

The time to prepare is growing short. For many, the crisis is already at the door, as their homes, families, physical strength, and livelihoods are threatened in a variety of ways. The underpinnings of freedom are eroding and the wisdom of the people is not nearly broad enough, their personal health, financial independence and relationship reservoirs not nearly deep enough to carry us through the Storm.

But Sean! Does it REALLY work? And will it work for ME ?!?

Larry & Stacey Allswede: Testimonies over Titles

Posted by Orrin Woodward on January 14, 2013

The Allswede Family
The LIFE Business continues to change lives and impact communities across America. What is so special about LIFE is that whether someone makes hundreds of thousands of dollars from the LIFE Business Compensation Plan or makes just a few bucks, it still changes lives for the better. Only a materialistic person would define success in just dollars. What about better relationships between spouses? Or parents and children? What about improved mobility at one’s profession due to increased people skills and leadership?
Simply stated, I believe the LIFE Business is the best educational system for success in the marketplace at less than 1/10th of the cost of conventional educational systems. In Oliver DeMille’s and my new book LeaderShift, to be released in April by Business Plus, we teach the difference between credentialist and creators. Credentialist focus on titles while creators focus on leadership. Leaders are leaders because people trust them and follow them, not because of titles. In other words, testimonies trump titles every time! It was 1994, when I quit my MBA from the University of Michigan, that I made my personal decision to stop focusing on titles and build a life of testimony. This fork in the road was highly significant for Laurie and my futures.
In the same way, Larry, and his wonderful wife Stacey, Allswede reached a fork in the road. Larry had started working at the Team office, but quickly realized he was better suited in the field as an entrepreneur. Today, the Allswedes are achieving success in all 8F’s of LIFE – Faith, Family, Finance, Fitness, Freedom, Fun, Friends, and Following – living a creators, not credentialist. Their story is one of many I receive. In fact, not a week goes by without receiving several emails like this confirming the huge impact LIFE is having upon lives. Thank you Larry and Stacey for having the courage to grow, change, and lead. Larry reached 1 million in sales revenue for his company in 18 months! Your story inspires others to step up, step out, and move on! It won’t be long before employers sort resume’s based upon applicants LIFE Business education.
How about the readers? Are you living a life of testimonies or titles? Only a few times in a person’s life is he given an opportunity to rewrite his script. LIFE is one of the few opportunities left for people to change their life script!  Here is Larry’s email to me with the rest of the story. I LOVE it!
Sincerely,
Orrin Woodward
As you might already know, I have been a part of Holger and Lindsey Spiewak’s team since 2006. I went to my first seminar in the fall of 2005 to see Jim and Dolores Martin and ever since then I was hooked! I wasn’t quite sure about the business, but I was certain that I wanted to be associated with Holger and that group of people! There since began my leadership journey! Since then, I can remember being completely addicted to the Audio CD’s mainly because I was so angry for never being taught ANY of the principles I was learning!
Let’s fast forward 5 1/2 years later. In the Spring of 2011, I caught wind of a job opening for a virtual school. I applied. The problem? The applicants were required to have a MINIMUM of a BS Degree, “Preferred” to have a Masters Degree, year of Student teaching, a year of community service, and a whole laundry list of other qualifications that I did NOT have. I only have SOME college, but I did not finish. I do not even have an associates degree, let alone a MASTERS degree. The only thing that I had off their requirement list were the objective things like “Team work…commitment…energetic (I’m part sanguine, of COURSE I’m energetic!)” etc. Needless to say, my resume was looking pretty unimpressive…until I added “Other Education” where I entered “Liber/Leadership Education – 10,000 Hours” (When adding up all the Audios over a 5 1/2 year period, all the Opens, Seminars, Majors, Mentor sessions with Holger Spiewak and Bill Lewis, Those hours put my right around 10,000. Not to mention roughly 100 personal development books)
Somehow I landed an interview. In the interview, there were 2 people and myself; the president of the company, and a consultant who was brought in to help the president hire in the right people) The consultant (Kim) took one look at my resume with a confused look and asked “What is a ‘Liber’ Education?” To which I replied “That is a great question!! Liber really means “tree bark” because it is what the ancients used to write on tablets when engaging in contract, communicating, etc. But it is also the root word for LIBERty and LIBERary…which those two words were closely connected in history. Those who were free knew HOW to think for themselves and could engage in contract. It’s a self directed, leadership education that teaches one how to think.” (Basically, I took the definition almost directly from Oliver DeMille’s 4 Lost American Ideals CD in the Freedom Pack) But their mouth’s about hit the table! Kim quickly said “Well, 10,000 hours of leadership training…that’s a lot of training… What was it all for?” To which I replied “well, I never felt like I fit within the boundaries of a formal education setting, where the methodology is curriculum and professors and experts. My heart sang when I was working in the classics with mentors who had a life that I aspired to have. So I chose the route to have a self directed leadership education, rather than a formal education.”
There were a whole host of other questions that were asked, and I don’t really remember what else I said, but I had a REALLY good feeling that they were impressed! After the interview, I was told that I would receive a phone call within a couple weeks to know if I got the job or not. By 8:30am the NEXT morning I got a call : “Good Morning, Larry! We are excited to call you and offer you a position at Clintondale Virtual School!” WOW!!!
Here’s the kicker… There were 12 (TWELVE) other applicants who interviewed. They ALL had Bachelors degrees, and 6 (SIX) of them had Masters Degrees!!! I was the ONLY ONE who did NOT have a degree, but rather had a leadership education from the  LIFE/Team community and I’m the one who got the job making a mid-range teachers salary. WOW!
LIFE is not only good to help people live the lives that they have always wanted, but it is also the best resume builder that I have seen so far! Talk about reinventing yourself and standing out from the crowd at the same time!
Since then, Kim and eventually her husband Ron have taken me under their wing here at the company with the virtual school and has helped mentor me to be excellent on the job. By this fall, 2013, I will have brought in over 1 million plus dollars of revenue to the company since starting with the company in March 2011.
I apologize for the length of this email. Thank you for taking the time to read it. You have changed my life in more ways than you possibly could have imagined! Thank you for your service! A Million times (people) Thank you!

Ending Procrastination by Jim Rohn

Ending Procrastination by Jim Rohn

Perseverance is about as important to achievement as gasoline is to driving a car. Sure, there will be times when you feel like you’re spinning your wheels, but you’ll always get out of the rut with genuine perseverance. Without it, you won’t even be able to start your engine.
The opposite of perseverance is procrastination. Perseverance means you never quit. Procrastination usually means you never get started, although the inability to finish something is also a form of procrastination.
Ask people why they procrastinate and you’ll often hear something like this: “I’m a perfectionist. Everything has to be just right before I can get down to work. No distractions, not too much noise, no telephone calls interrupting me, and of course I have to be feeling well physically, too. I can’t work when I have a headache.” The other end of procrastination—being unable to finish—also has a perfectionist explanation: “I’m just never satisfied. I’m my own harshest critic. If all the i’s aren’t dotted and all the t’s aren’t crossed, I just can’t consider that I’m done. That’s just the way I am, and I’ll probably never change.”

Do you see what’s going on here? A fault is being turned into a virtue. The perfectionist is saying that his standards are just too high for this world. This fault-into-virtue syndrome is a common defense when people are called upon to discuss their weaknesses, but in the end it’s just a very pious kind of excuse making. It certainly doesn’t have anything to do with what’s really behind procrastination.
Remember, the basis of procrastination could be fear of failure. That’s what perfectionism really is, once you take a hard look at it. What’s the difference whether you’re afraid of being less than perfect or afraid of anything else? You’re still paralyzed by fear. What’s the difference whether you never start or never finish? You’re still stuck. You’re still going nowhere. You’re still overwhelmed by whatever task is before you. You’re still allowing yourself to be dominated by a negative vision of the future in which you see yourself being criticized, laughed at, punished, or ridden out of town on a rail. Of course, this negative vision of the future is really a mechanism that allows you to do nothing. It’s a very convenient mental tool.
I’m going to tell you how to overcome procrastination. I’m going to show you how to turn procrastination into perseverance, and if you do what I suggest, the process will be virtually painless. It involves using two very powerful principles that foster productivity and perseverance instead of passivity and procrastination.
The first principle is: break it down.
No matter what you’re trying to accomplish, whether it’s writing a book, climbing a mountain, or painting a house, the key to achievement is your ability to break down the task into manageable pieces and knock them off one at one time. Focus on accomplishing what’s right in front of you at this moment. Ignore what’s off in the distance someplace. Substitute real-time positive thinking for negative future visualization. That’s the first all-important technique for bringing an end to procrastination.
Suppose I were to ask you if you could write a four-hundred-page novel. If you’re like most people, that would sound like an impossible task. But suppose I ask you a different question. Suppose I ask if you can write a page and a quarter a day for one year. Do you think you could do it? Now the task is starting to seem more manageable. We’re breaking down the four-hundred-page book into bite-size pieces. Even so, I suspect many people would still find the prospect intimidating. Do you know why? Writing a page and a quarter may not seem so bad, but you’re being asked to look ahead one whole year. When people start to do look that far ahead, many of them automatically go into a negative mode. So let me formulate the idea of writing a book in yet another way. Let me break it down even more.
Suppose I were to ask you, Can you fill up a page and a quarter with words—not for a year, not for a month, not even for a week, but just today? Don’t look any further ahead than that. I believe most people would confidently declare that they could accomplish that. Of course, these would be the same people who feel totally incapable of writing a whole book.
If I said the same thing to those people tomorrow–if I told them, I don’t want you to look back, and I don’t want you to look ahead, I just want you to fill up a page and a quarter this very day–do you think they could do it?
One day at a time. We’ve all heard that phrase. That’s what we’re doing here. We’re breaking down the time required for a major task into one–day segments, and we’re breaking down the work involved in writing a four-hundred-page book into page-and-a-quarter increments.
Keep this up for one year, and you’ll write the book. Discipline yourself to look neither forward nor backward, and you can accomplish things you never thought you could possibly do. And it all begins with those three words: break it down.
The second principle is: write it down.
My second technique for defeating procrastination is also only three words long. The three words are: write it down. We know how important writing is to goal setting. The writing you’ll do for beating procrastination is very similar. Instead of focusing on the future, however, you’re now going to be writing about the present just as you experience it every day. Instead of describing the things you want to do or the places you want to go, you’re going to describe what you actually do with your time, and you’re going to keep a written record of the places you actually go.
In other words, you’re going to keep a diary of your activities. And you’re going to be amazed by the distractions, detours, and downright wastes of time you engage in during the course of a day. All of these get in the way of achieving your goals. For many people, it’s almost like they planned it that way, and maybe at some unconscious level they did. The great thing about keeping a time diary is that it brings all this out in the open. It forces you to see what you’re actually doing... and what you’re not doing.
The time diary doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. Just buy a little spiral notebook that you can easily carry in your pocket. When you go to lunch, when you drive across town, when you go to the dry cleaners, when you spend some time shooting the breeze at the copying machine, make a quick note of the time you began the activity and the time it ends. Try to make this notation as soon as possible; if it’s inconvenient to do it immediately, you can do it later. But you should make an entry in your time diary at least once every thirty minutes, and you should keep this up for at least a week.
Break it down. Write it down. These two techniques are very straightforward. But don’t let that fool you: These are powerful and effective productivity techniques that allow you put an end to procrastination and help you get started to achieving your goals.

Your Date with Destiny

Your Date with Destiny by Chris Widener

Destiny. What a powerful word. And the great thing about it? Everyone has one! You have a destiny! Another great thing about destiny? We have a significant role in shaping our own destiny! In essence, you can choose your date with destiny - powerful!

Your destiny is the dream that lies within you of your desired and preferred future. And the things that we choose each day are what lead us to that destiny: Our actions, our words, our attitudes, and our relationships. They all add up to develop and shape that date on which we will reach our destiny.

Here are some thoughts to think about as you work on shaping your Date with Destiny:

The Mental Question: Do you believe that you can achieve a life of abundance? The frank truth is that many people simply do not believe that they can achieve what lies in their heart. Success is for someone else, a better person, or a smarter person. This is not true and is perhaps the greatest obstacle we face on the journey to our destiny. If we are to achieve the abundance in life we must first believe we can, or face our own continual self-sabotage of what a college professor of mine called "stinkin'-thinkin.'"

Here is the truth:
It doesn't matter what your intelligence is.
It doesn't matter what your current resources are.
It doesn't matter what you currently earn.
It doesn't matter what family you came from.

Nothing in your current circumstances matters in whether or not you can achieve your destiny! Nothing! Now, your current state may make it a longer or harder journey than someone else, but the possibility is always there no matter what your current circumstances are.

And that is the message we need to continually tell ourselves. "I can do it." Not "I can't do it."
Orrin Woodward, coFounder of http://LivingForExcellence247.com puts it like this: "If you believe you can, you can.
If you believe you can't, you can't. Either way, you're right!"

Clear vision. Do you have one of your destiny? Here are some questions to determine whether or not your vision is clear.

Can you describe it in intricate detail?
Can you "see" it?
Can you "feel" it?
Can you "hear" it?

Here are a couple of illustrations.

Perhaps you came from a dysfunctional family and your dream is to have great moments with your family. Let's start with a Thanksgiving meal. Can you see each person there? What are they wearing? Are they smiling? What is the conversation? Can you hear the laughter? Can you experience the joy? Can you smell the turkey? Can you see people hugging each other and saying "This was wonderful," as they leave?

Another scenario: Your Company. Can you see the large building you are in? Can you see the workers? Can you feel the positive attitude they have as they carry out their work? Can you experience the excitement as you get the quarterly results? Can you see yourself handing out healthy bonuses that bring pleasant surprises to your employees?

This is where it begins. A clear vision of your destiny. Consider your resources. Are you aware of the resources you will need in order to set your date with destiny? Do you know how you will go about getting them? What are your natural gifts and talents that you have? How can you best utilize them in achieving your destiny?

What is your current level of resources?
Money?
Time?
Emotional health?
Help from others such as friends, family, employees or volunteers?

What will be your needed future level of resources? And have you developed a plan to achieve this level?

The last thing I would encourage you to do is fix a date in the future that you believe you could be living your destiny by. A real date. What this enables you to do is then begin to work backwards in setting goals to move you along the way, providing you with future points to strive for and an evaluation point to reflect upon.

Here are the points again:

Answer the mental question: Do I really believe?

Develop a clear vision.

Consider the resources needed.

Set a date with destiny.

Develop a plan to get there by taking the http://is.gd/mfchallenge today!

What if God’s Will Doesn’t Make Sense?

What if God’s Will Doesn’t Make Sense?
Charles Stanley
At times we may struggle with directions we receive from the Lord. We question whether they are from Him because they . . .

Clash with our personal desires. The mother of James and John asked that her sons sit beside Jesus in heaven. The Lord said no to her selfish ambition and called her sons to a life of humble service to others (Matthew 20:20–28).

Conflict with our human reasoning. Some of the disciples expected Jesus to rule as the long-prophesied King. When He told them He was going to be killed by the religious leaders, His words didn’t line up with their thinking about the future.

Challenge our faith. Christ told the disciples that He would be resurrected on the third day (Matthew 16:21). Peter and the others had to accept Jesus’ words even though many people of the day—including some religious leaders—did not believe in the resurrection of the body (Matthew 22:23).

God’s direction may call for courage as well. We see this clearly in Joshua’s life. The Lord appointed him as the leader who would take Israel into the Promised Land (Josh. 1:1-6). Our heavenly Father may ask us to become a leader in our local church, to participate in a missions trip, or to serve those who are hard to love. He wants us to step forward bravely and obey.

Following God shouldn’t involve guesswork. Scripture is a good source for confirming divine direction, as our Father won’t give any guidance that is contrary to biblical principles. Receiving godly counsel from a pastor or mature believer can also reassure us that we've heard correctly (Proverbs 15:22).

L.I.F.E. Highlights for 2012

As we near the end of the year, we would like to take a little time to recap some of the remarkable things that have happened in the LIFE business since its inception in November of 2011 and to offer our sincere and deepest gratitude to all of our LIFE Members and Customers. It has been a year of record-breaking sales, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the growth and development that we have already seen take place in the LIFE Community. Many connections have been made, and life-long bonds have been established. It is so gratifying to witness the positive transformation engendered by the life-changing information we offer in every area of life—in all of the 8F categories: Faith, Family, Friends, Finances, Fitness, Fun, Following, and Freedom. We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our Members as well as of the various products that we have added to our repertoire.
This past year, we have released several new informative and inspiring books to guide and motivate our Members and Customers on their success journeys. These include Tim Marks’ very first book Voyage of a Viking. The book details his own personal growth story of overcoming obstacles and weaknesses and sanding off the sharp edges of his personality in order to improve his marriage and family life as well as his finances and to become a leader in this industry who encourages others to believe in themselves, do the hard work to learn and grow, and really go for their dreams. Tim’s glowing example is definitely one worthy of emulation.
Bestselling author Chris Brady also released his newest creation A Month of Italy: Rediscovering the Art of Vacation this year. Chris’s wit and humor shine in this story of his family’s adventures on a month-long vacation in fascinating, charming Italy. A Month of Italy is not only entertaining, but it also offers plenty of advice for greater success in leadership and in life. Brady shows readers first-hand how to leverage Strategic Sabbaticals for increased rejuvenation, clarity of thought, production, achievement, and overall well-being.
We also published bestselling author Oliver DeMille’s newest book 1913. This book offers invaluable incite into three events that occurred in 1913 and one follow-up event that occurred in 1936 that constituted a Turning Point away from freedom in the U.S. But far from a doom-and-gloom book, it also pinpoints the type of people and the actions necessary to reverse this trend, create a new Turning Point toward freedom, and restore America to her former glory.
RESOLVED: 13 Resolutions for LIFE, bestselling author Orrin Woodward’s first solo project, was honored to make the Top 100 All-Time Best Leadership Books List. The book also became the foundational component of LIFE’s Mental Fitness Challenge, which was released this year. The Mental Fitness Challenge is a 13-week course, based on the principles and resolutions taught in the RESOLVED book, that focuses on personal and leadership development in every aspect of life. Both the RESOLVED book and the MFC have been so successful in producing measurable growth among readers and participants that schools and businesses across North America have begun to use the materials as part of their own leadership development curricula. As the perfect complement to these products and achievements, Orrin Woodward also released in 2012 his RESOLVED Primer, a compact, highly accessible companion volume to RESOLVED: 13 Resolutions for LIFE designed by New York Times bestselling author (and Networking Times senior editor) John David Mann to be a quick, easy, and powerful read.
And since we know that youth are the future of this world, LIFE launched the exciting Edge Series in 2012. The best way to learn is from the experience of others, so we wanted to offer young people the advantage of expediting the process of learning leadership principles, thereby giving them the potential to achieve their goals much earlier than most and without having to learn every lesson the hard way. Who wouldn’t want an edge like that?
In addition to offering the advantage of access to life-changing information, we love to reward our Members for their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments. One spectacular bonus our Members can receive is the One-Time Cash Awards for ranks of Leader 6 and above. Who wouldn’t be thrilled to get a little extra cash to celebrate their achievements? And, honestly, these bonuses aren’t so little!
Another fabulous benefit that we offer our LIFE Members is the opportunity to earn a Leader 6 or a 6,000 for 6 FREE Incentive Trip. Rewards don’t get much more thrilling and fun than this! Members have the ability to earn these amazing free trips within a fairly short time of enrollment, and those who qualify get to choose from several breath-taking destinations.
See? We told you it’s been an exciting year! And we don’t plan on stopping now. We fully intend to keep marching toward our goal of reaching one million people and beyond because people and relationships are the heart and soul of the LIFE business. We are deeply appreciative of all of the LIFE Members and Customers who have already ventured out with us—and all of those we know will be joining the journey soon! We look forward to so many more wonderful developments within the LIFE Community, and we are determined to keep working to supply our Members and Customers with true value so that we can help you Live the Life You’ve Always Wanted!

Do Conservatives Deserve to Lose?

(The difference between how Liberals and Conservatives deal with the media is destroying freedom. )
By Oliver DeMille

The Left and Right approach politics very differently.

The Left
carefully encourages relationships with people of different groups and
proactively seeks out new members, while the Right expects people to just
accept "the obvious truth" and join them.

The Right tries to convince others using evidence and argumentation (see Fox News), while the Left seeks to engage the
heart, emotions and relationships (see MSNBC).

The result of this difference is that in the entire modern
era since World War I, we have been governed mostly from the Left.

The only significant exceptions were two Republican presidents who appealed to the heart, emotions
and connection with the voters.

Eisenhower was a beloved war hero, Ronald
Reagan a former actor who knew how to communicate with the masses, and both were
able to speak to the people in heartfelt emotional language.

The Good Ole' Days

During the century before
World War I, the people elected mainly conservative presidents--in an era of
written news where ideas and issues ruled.

But in the electronic age voters
prefer the "feelings" approach. Modern voters want a president who connects
with them, one they feel would deeply, truly care about them and reach out to
help them personally if he knew them.

But conservatives have a bigger problem.

A House Divided

Not only do they
struggle to connect with the voters because they seem stuck in their head and
intellectual arguments, they also have a bad habit of not even connecting with
each other.

In short, there is a major obstacle conservatives need to overcome
if they want to start winning most major elections.

Put simply, those on the Right need to be more unified.

The far Left has long known that beating conservatives is
easy.

All you have to do is watch for any conservative who really begins to be
effective, and then quickly follow the Alinsky rule: "target, isolate,
ridicule, remove."

Whenever potential conservative leaders arise, the Left
targets them. It ridicules, tears them down, and attacks their credibility.

The Right does this to leaders of the Left too, but there is
a huge difference in how this happens.

The Right tears down Democratic
candidates or liberal thinkers, but the Left keeps a close eye on this and
quickly rallies behind any left-wing person who is getting attacked by the
Right.

The Left basically assumes that if the Right is attacking the person, he
or she must be on the good side. This unity is extremely powerful, and it is
the reason few liberals are worried about conservatism leading the 21st
century.

In contrast, when the Left targets someone on the Right,
many conservatives seek to distance themselves from the individual under attack.

Many on the Right are so afraid of looking bad that they refuse to stand behind
other conservatives under assault.

There are, of course, exceptions to this pattern, and those
who stand behind others on the same side are the true conservative leaders.

But
they are in the minority.

Tea Party vs. Occupy

For example, when the Tea Party gathered huge crowds of
regular citizens to stand up against government overspending, far too many
conservatives found minor differences between the Tea Partiers and their own
views and used this as an excuse to distance themselves.

In contrast, nearly
all liberals publically supported the Wall Street Occupiers. Many on the Left
disagreed with the Occupy movement on various topics, but they still gave
strong public support.

After the 2012 election, Mitt Romney faced ongoing attacks
by a number of liberal pundits; but amazingly he also received a lot of attacks
from conservatives, including former supporters.

Dole, McCain and Palin endured
the same thing. In contrast, the last three losing Democratic candidates for
president were strongly supported by most liberals and eventually two of them
were made Secretaries of State and the other the head of the Democratic
Committee by President Obama and other Democratic leaders.

When a college girl was ridiculed by the Right for making a
liberal comment, President Obama called her to express his support.

President
Bush stayed away from such "controversial" things. Indeed, liberals frequently
use controversy to further their goals, while conservatives too often just shy
away from such opportunities.

Crisis Management

Most conservatives want to avoid crises, while
liberals see crisis as the best way to promote their views.

As a result,
liberals win more than conservatives.

There are many other examples of this difference between how
liberals and conservatives treat people on their own "side."

Of course, some
conservatives are loyal to each other and some liberals attack their own, but
on the whole the Left is much more unified than the Right.

For the staunch
conservatives reading this: say what you want about liberals, but they stick
together.

If conservatives were as loyal, they'd run the country. Literally.

This lack of conservative unity is rooted at least partly in
fear of the media.

Where there's smoke, there's fire

The mainstream media generally has a left-leaning bias, and many conservatives
want to avoid criticism at all costs.

But
if you haven't been criticized, you probably aren't making much of a
difference--especially in a field as important as freedom.

Just consider the alternative. What would happen if every
time a conservative was targeted and ridiculed by the media, the response was a
huge outpouring of strong, vocal support from all conservatives, independents
and freedom-loving people?

The Left does it. Why don't conservatives do it more
often?

If they did, more people would muster the courage to speak
out boldly for freedom, and we'd put forth very different candidates and elect
very different national leaders.

Moreover, a lot more regular people would
listen to the freedom message.

The Left wins more often because it is more unified.

How
obvious is this? If we are divided while the other side is unified, we will
surely fail.

The Definition of Insanity

Conservatives are losing the battle for America, and to turn
this around they must stop trying to impress the mainstream media. It will
never work anyway, and the more they try, the more splintered they become.

In
the process of attempting to avoid criticism, the Right is losing battle after
battle to the more unified Left.

The way this works is shockingly sad, and it bears repeating:

·
The Left attacks someone on the Right, precisely
because his or her ideas have merit.

·
The elite media joins the attacks.

·
Then (once the person promoting the new idea is
targeted and ridiculed by the Left and the mainstream media), others on the Right
do an amazing thing--they distance themselves or join in the attacks!

As long as this is the way conservatives do things, they
deserve to keep losing.

And lose they will.

The Right may win a few elections, mostly
in strongly conservative states, but overall the decades ahead will go to the
side that is most unified and loyal.

If conservatives become better at this
than liberals, they'll lead. If not, they won't.

Loyalty and unity are the
first keys to success and leadership. Those who don't understand this are
destined to fail.

Insider Scoop:
Upcoming book: LeaderShift

Our own Oliver DeMille has teamed with entrepreneur and leadership guru Orrin Woodward to author an upcoming book - and you're among the very first to hear about it!

The
manuscript was picked up in Spring of 2012 by top publishing house
Grand Central Publishing (an imprint of Hachette, the second largest
publisher in the world), who fast-tracked it to release less than 1 year
later on 4/16/13.

The book is called LeaderShift.
It's a business fable about elite executive David Mercer, who's become a
successful turnaround specialist for failing corporations by applying
his understanding of The Five Laws of Decline.

He's
met his goals in life, and now sees that the freedom and opportunity
that afforded him success will largely be unavailable to his loved ones
of the rising generations. So he starts to apply his gifts to now
determine how to effect a "turnaround" for the declining United States.

Mercer assembles a team of colleagues and gets some help from an surprising,
otherworldly, source. The dialectical discussion and principles that
are bandied about in the fictional narrative are hopefully going to
become a part of the national dialogue.

It's
really quite a departure from Oliver's non-fiction style, although the
flavor will be familiar. His publisher is thrilled about the book, and
they will launch on 4/16/13.

More information to follow in upcoming communiques. Watch for it!
